Born in Oklahoma City, Rocky Armstrong was raised in the Douglas Trojan tradition under the guidance of legendary music educators Leroy Hicks and W. G. Perry. He began playing guitar at age ten and soon took his talents to the stage. His sweet, sensual, soulful sound moves easily from highly syncopated rhythms to smooth jazz riffs. Widely regarded as one of finest young guitar players to come out of Oklahoma City since the Deep Deuce, he toured with many of the all stars from Jazz to Pop and Blues to R &B, including Nancy Wilson, Kool & The Gang, The Mascaraders, Blue Magic, Johnnie Taylor and The O’Jays.
Rocky joined Johann Kimbro and Terry Knighten in 1996. His versatile grooves and their funky sophisticated rhythms formed the nucleus that is Shortt Dogg.
