Inshawndo (Shawn) Dawson is a native of Oklahoma City born into the local music legacy. With an extraordinary keyboardist mother and an accomplished baritone father, Shawn grew up in a home filled with music ranging from classical to Christian/gospel to down home blues.
Shawn’s love for all types of music developed at an early age. Educated in the Oklahoma City public school system, Shawn reap the benefits of the tutelage of many of the cities most renowned music instructors such as Earl Pittman, Anceo and Maureen Francisco, Leroy Hicks and Dr. Donald Edwards.
Shawn’s musical career has spanned the decades with her performing solo, as a duet with her long time friend Reginald Thomas, as well as various local groups before settling into Shortt Dogg with her brother, Johann and daughter, Ckai.
Though her musical taste is expansive, her most favorite genres are gospel and jazz. She accredits her mother, Johnnie Kimbro for teaching her to play, her father Isaac Kimbro for teaching her to perform, and her aunt, Evelyn LaRue Pittman for lighting the torch of the legacy she carries.
